Hi all again this is the end of week 1 with my mated queen and she seems to have buried herself in the small plastic tub I put her in. the tub is lidless and sits against the side of the big jar she will be living in until there is too many. anyway. finally got a queen and she seems settled, but I see a few drops of water as condensation in the small tub with her. I don't know what to do because I don't want to disturb her and I don't want the eggs to go mouldy. (my mam never made me mouldy ) the pin pricks have helped in the big jar! there is no condensation now. cheers oh yes, and while you answer my problem, how long will it take for her to lay eggs because I'm rather hungry. (you know what I mean) thanks all, I'll be back tomorrow (Saturday) to see the replies.

Hi there Dazzi, I don't think you should worry too much about the condensation. If the queen is in any danger, she will move herself. In fact, at least she has a drink to keep her going. She will lay a small number of eggs to start with, mine laid 8 or 9. She will then feed herself and the young ones with stores kept within her body, her wing musles for instance. My queens both laid eggs within about 3 days of being put in the basin. Basically it will happen as and when she feels safe and secure. It should then take a few weeks for your first newborns to be born. They will then begin to create a nest. I'm in the dark about what happens after that, but probably some enerfy food will be required for them. Good luck with your queens. She's most likely got some eggs by now as new queens don't hang about, and start a family asap
