There is often a lot of controversy about the exact number of ant species found within Britain, but this is a fairly comprehensive list of them. The British Isles has about 50 species, covering roughly 7 of the major ant genus and a few lesser known ones; but ant distribution is very sparse in some of the more northern remote areas. When compared to other countries, Britain is very poor for ant diversity on the whole; but with global warming and milder winters, ants which do not live here presently may perhaps colonize these islands in the future en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_AntsMain ant genus found in the UK are as follows} 1. Formica 2. Lasius 3. Leptothorax 4. Myrmica 5. Solenopsis 6. Tapinoma 7. Tetramorium
