I occasionally get the odd message from a few members asking if they can change the design of this forum, as in their opinion it is too cluttered. Please note, it is not a Website!
Firstly the forum hosts (Proboards) are in full control of their forums, as I am only the administrator for Ant Hill World, so the general overall design is the same for all of their forums/message boards.
Secondly each Admin has access to certain codes and colour schemes which they can choose to make their forum different from any other, and in my case I wished to make this forum have the appearance of an Ant Hill in some aspects of its design. A plain and simple forum look is not what I wanted for the Ant Hill. If you want plain and simple, there are other forums out there which may be better suited to you; but if you're as dedicated to the study and hobby of ants as most of us here are, then you'll find this forum is the best for giving out reliable information, plus some lovely photos and videos from our members.
If members think this forum is cluttered, then they should try a forum which never deletes any of its rubbish threads, or one where posts consist of just one word or smilies, which in our view is counter productive to the place, as posting a smiley is totally none productive and simply a way of increasing that members post count. Posts of this kind are deleted here, as we prefer quality posts rather than quantity.
There is another UK ant forum which is run for kids and is very immature deliberately, as that is how they want to do things, preferring to have a children's chat place. Here we have several top Myrmecology experts as members, as well as very mature adults who are seriously into ants; but we treat all members as though they're mature people here regardless of their actual age, as all members must be 13+ to join as laid down by USA law which governs this forum; and many 13 year olds behave more like young adults on the whole if they are serious about ant studies
Members of this forum are free to join any other if they wish, as some do belong to several other ant forums; but we do strive not to clutter up boards with useless or irrelevant information, unlike some forums which archive everything regardless of content.
When it comes down to Ant Hill World I am solely dedicated to how it looks design wise, and I have no intention of changing things too much, or too often, as this is what would put people off joining who are ant lovers and who join because they love the place just as it is.
Sorry if this offends anyone, but to all of you budding web designers who want to change the place, may I suggest that you go and start your own forum or web site, as this forum is mine as I created it for ant lovers everywhere; and I alone decide what changes take place, if any
