Hi all as some of you may know I got a queen in July.
anyway she laid eggs and about 2 or 3 grew a bit, but that has stopped and they've been in there since July, so has anyone got any suggestions?
otherwise maybe I should buy a queen with workers because this is the second year something has happened. Last year I mistakenly put a bottle top with water in that she *COUGH* died in *COUGH*
lol OK go on shout at me and tell me how stupid I am, as long as you come up with suggestions.

God your so stupid , Just kidding, I did that with a rubra colony I caught before, I came home from work to find a bottle cap full of drowned rubras. I poured them out onto tissue in a tub and left them. By night time, they were all coming round again, some of them were stuck to the tissue(sugar) but managed to come away without losing legs etc. Eventually one by one they 'came to life' and started to help each other then I put them back in the tank. This was a tip I learned from this forum from the thread named 'kiss of life' or something like that Maybe your current colony is being kept too cool or maybe the queen needs feeding, I've noticed lack of brood growth in my ants is generally always to do with heat.

Hey dazzi41,
Did those eggs you mentioned develop to workers, or did they vanish? Sounds likes your queen is inactive, this is probably due to something in her environment. Since you have observed brood she would seem to be fertile. This could be lack of heat, as golix mentioned, or moisture among many things.
I have always had problems raising queens solo in larger setups. Test tubes, or something to that degree provide a perfect situation where you can easily attain the environmental conditions you want. What kind of set up do you have her in?
