I was just planning for this spring when another anting season will begin, and the species I plan to hopefuly collect. I was just curious, like Myrmica rubra, do Aphaenogaster fulva or carolinensis tolerate more than one queen in a nest? Also my other question was that, how long do Monomorium minimum queens live and can queens mate within the nest? Thanks.

Hi Lafourmi and welcome to Ant Hill World I must be honest and say that I know nothing about Monomorium species; but as for Aphaenogaster, I have kept A. senilis and I believe that most of this genus seem to be monogynous in nature. However, reading various bits of info about Aphaenogaster, it does appear that some species are also polygynous, so there is some controversy about queen numbers in wild nests

Thank you for replying...anyway, I did suspect that Aphaenogaster were monogynous.
