Today it was a warm day, compared to the rest of this summer, and by coincidence I stumbled upon a Myrmica rubra queen ! First I was thinking, mmmmmmm, that's a mighty big worker, but once I saw a couple winged males I immediately captured the "big worker". After some closer looking I'm pretty sure it's a queen, her middle part and back are a lot bigger then that of the workers. But it's harder to see the difference with this species. Once I pull of some decent pictures I'll post them. I looked for a couple more hours but found no second queen What I kinda regret because this species can have more then one queen in a nest. I will look again tomorrow, since that is gonna be an even hotter day. I suppose I can put this queen in a test tube just like I did with my Lasius niger queen? I'm pretty happy to find a Myrmica rubra queen, and I'm very much hoping to find a second ! edit: it's probably not good to put workers from the old kolonie with the new queen?

Cool I found 5 one day, and it was hard to tell the difference but I had winged queens in there too and they were the same . It sounds like you do have a queen.

My queen still hasn't laid any eggs,
is it to late for that? or is it to cold already or something?
will she be fine untill next summer?
