I've had a young queen for a week now and I have been serving her sugar and water...........that just doesn't seem like a satisfactory meal. Do any of you have suggestions as to what I could feed her without coming back the next day and finding mold in her container? She has just started laying eggs if that helps any. Perhaps this thread will help other people decide what to feed their brand new queens as well...

I don't offer food to a new queen, with or without eggs, as she generally has enough stored supplies to last her until her first workers arrive. The trouble with young queens is, they often ignore food and it then goes mouldy, even sugar water will after so long. Try waiting until she at least has larvae and pupae, then she may just accept a bit of food; but usually they don't eat until the workers bring food back for them
