Last Thursday we decided to send a parcel in the post, so I made a trip to our local post office and sent it off 1st class at 11am that morning. At 1pm the same day, we watched the news on our TV in horror, as it was announced that the postal workers had gone out on strike action for at least 48 hours, with it probably extending until Wednesday of this week This now means that the parcel is now held in a post office somewhere. I hope that it reaches its destination safely, as the postal service can be slow at the best of times here in the UK. It would've been quicker to deliver it ourselves if only we had known about this strike sooner!

It appears that the postal strike is mainly affecting parcels and letters posted within the Royal Mail, as I ordered a colony of Formica sanguinea from Germany; and this was delivered via GLS and arrived safely. Although this is a private delivery company; and to my knowledge has no connection with the Royal Mail, even though the delivery man had a R.M. jacket on? Let's hope the post office is working again today, as it must be really worrying for anyone who is waiting for an overdue parcel; and much of the mail posted last Thursday which should have only taken 2 days at most is now 5 days late!

On the BBC news this morning, they showed back logs of parcels in crates, as the depot was full of undelivered mail. They said it could take weeks to clear as more strikes are imminent for Monday. They showed unofficial strikes of workers in various places outside depots, and had talks into the night last night with no results. It all rolls on

I have lost 57 queens in one order and 5 queens in another order due to the postal strike. They should have taken 3 days tops to get to their destination...they took 12 days. We suspect that they were in a very cold place when stored. The Royal Mail people did not try to find them even though I emailed 3 days after they were posted. They were sat for 10 days in the UK warehouse. I feel so mean and so cruel. It's not so much the money loss, it would be nice to have that, but it is more the fact that I take care of these queens and hope for nice homes. NASTY post people !!!!

I collected my two Messor queens today, and lo and behold - they were still alive after spending almost 10 days in the postal system! (Thanks Wood! ) I have a spare tank for one of them, but the other I will have to find a small pot for. Thank heaven for that, as I've been worried about them, so it was good that you finished early enough to collect them. Left to the postal system at the moment, they would've died for sure inside some depot It is for this same reason that I am not sending anything through the post, as who knows what would happen to it
