Today was the very first collection of our green recycling bin, which is full of garden plant rubbish. The idea is to recycle it into compost, which will be sold later at a cheap price. Well the collection lorry came up our road, but because our flat is off the road, we decided to place the green bin by our back gate on the main car park. All the other council waste collection lorries pick up from the back, so we imagined that the garden refuse one would do the same. Oh no! It went sailing off up the road, leaving Jen chasing them on her bike trying to catch them up to tell them they had missed both our bin, and that of one of neighbours. Unable to catch them, poor Jen came back and phoned the depot to complain, only to be told that if the green bins cannot be seen from the road, then they won't be emptied. We pay for this service, but I bet that they will not come back for another 2 weeks. So much for paying poll tax and then paying extra for this fortnightly garden refuse collection service, when the entire system fails like it did today Honestly, what is the point of paying for a service when you have to do half the work yourself; and that means pushing a heavy wheelie bin a distance of 100 yards just so it can be visible from the road, when it was clearly visible from the back if only they'd come around there like the other lorries do.

The places that use the waste to make compost mix it with soil, real compost is supossed to be left about 12 months and turned every now and then its really horrible stuff that they make.

Luckily the lorry did come back 2hrs later. They hadn't been told to drive around the back like the bin lorry does. But I am not convinced in 2 weeks time that it will get emptied again, as it will be a different driver I was told.
