So I left my leptothorax colony at home today and they were sitting in the tubing attached to the walnut nest with around 5 ants foraging in the basin... But, when I came home about an hour ago and checked on them they are no where to be seen. And I mean nowhere I have turned the basin up side down looking for them... I think they may have escaped through a small hole in the cellotape covering a hole to connect to tubing... It just seems crazy as how would they carry all the brood and everything in the 3 hours I was out of the house I'm just wondering if they have settled in my room somewhere or, is it more likely they went out through the window of which the top half was open but it was about 1 mtr from the basin... Anyone had this before? Thanks.

Hi bobdol, did you find them? 3 hours seem a really short time for them to have taken everything
