I came back from my holiday and I checked my pheidole pallidula formicarium only to find the queen had survived my grandparents were not succesful looking after them. I hate it when this happens

Only the queen? If she's alive, you should put her somewhere dark and warm where she can try and raise another batch. Sorry to hear about that.

I hate it when this happens Does this mean all the workers are dead and the queen is alive, or is it the other way round? Either way this colony is probably doomed I'm sad to say

the queen is only alive.... I am glad to say that she is alive and mr gerhard of Ants kalytta is going to send me some Pheidole brood
