I moved the queen into a large plaster nest which mimics the natural structure of the formica leimani nest in the wild. She took the cocoons and placed them in a chamber, and then explored the tunnels, always coming back to check on her cocoons. She is an avid drinker of honeywater!!

One of the cocoons darkened, then hatched into a pale callow ant. The callow is darkening up and moving around a bit, and taking refuge under the queen when I vibrate the table the nest is on. The queen is very protective of the cocoons, but has shown no signs of laying eggs.

No eggs yet, and perhaps she will lay them next year. The two cocoons did indeed hatch and she has 2 happy little workers running around her.
