Hey guys Well due to there not being any websites on keeping termites , I have decided to make one, it is fairly new so still being done, hopefully will be finished by the end of the weekend, I shall add more to it as I learn more about keeping these wonderful insects. For now it has just the home page and a introduction but like I said will finish off the other pages this week Hope it becomes a beacon and lessons the so called stigma termites have had placed upon them. Regards Adam

I have just looked at your site Adam, and you appear to have a problem as the photos are covering over the text on your pages.

Hello Wood ant , cheers for that , I have just checked it and it appears as it should , no text being covered by photos. It did that with me once but It was my Internet browser, once refreshed it workers fine.
I hope that's the case anyway
Regards
Adam

This is the page showing the worst fault, and it is doing this on both IE on our laptop and on Jen's tablet which uses android. Lower down the page the pics do not overlap the text, so it must be something to do with where you place your text and photos on your web pages? Attachments:

Looks good, and should hopefully be useful to those of us who are interested in termites. It's strange how you have sites, communities and shops dedicated to ants...but only extermination advice for termites. Keep it up!

Probably because the stereo type reaction to them is there pests, but I've been doing my research (mainly from websites that Adam gave me) and not all are like that. Anyhow this is a great development and I hope all the best for your website

Termites are as interesting eusocial insects as ants but there have been this bad press about them since human beings started destroying their habitats and converting them for housing, industries and agriculture. Of the some two thousand known species of termites less than a couple hundred species are actual pests of human erected structures and planted crops. Needless to say these few pest species can be very destructive if their 'invasions' are not detected.
Here are just a few interesting observations about termites:
1. Termites are the only eusocial insect that have a full time 'professional' soldier caste (except maybe parasitic slave taking ants). These does nothing but protect the colony in all its activities. Even professional human soldiers take on duties other than protecting the country. 2. Termites are hands free, they never use 'hands'. While in ants most species also use their two front limbs as improvised 'hands' termite never do. 3. Termites workers are ferocious and tenacious fighters in their own right. Their battles are usually against the termites workers of other species (also against their own species from different nest). 4. Termites soldiers are totally harmless as a pest, it is the workers that are most destructive. 5. While the males of ants lived only to have sex, the males of termites are very involved fathers. In some species of termites, in the founding stage males are known to 'sacrifice' part of their limbs and antennae to help produce the first brood of offspring when food are in short supply. Males ants never does any work in the colony at any time but the male of termites work as an equal partner in founding the colony and excavating and sealing their first nest. In many species parenting duties is carried out mostly by the male who feeds the developing nymphs with the female mainly laying the eggs. 6. It has been widely documented that termites workers and soldiers are blind. This is not technically true as many termites workers and soldiers are able to detect light. 7. While most termites live and forage under the surface there are several species that are free ranging, foraging in the open night and day to collect and harvest their food.

Hi Adam,
Your doing ground breaking work here on keeping termites. A lot of sites give basic data and field observations - but not information on how to keep them in captivity. If you can keep your colony thriving in captivity and all your observations updated you will become an renown expert in the field. Hopefully your journal will encourage others to try and keep them. Who knows maybe in a year or two every ant forum will have a termite section!
