I have finally decided which of my colonies I would like to keep for myself. The queen I have chosen was one of my favourites from the start because of her bright red colouring. Its not the largest of my colony's but there is four workers and a lot of brood which is developing fast. They have been accepting some seeds and I often see the workers hanging upside down with some antbread. Insect food seems to scare them a bit when placed in the test tube but they calm down and feed the larvae with it after a while.

Another worker eclosed today and 2 more should be along today or tommorow. The brood pile is still large and the workers gasters are full with food.

There are 9 workers in this colony now - all roughly the same size although 2 or 3 are bigger than nanatic size after receiving more food as larvae. There are also 2 more pupae which are starting to turn brown. As well as those two pupae there is also a large batch of larvae - approximately 20 or so in all different sizes. I was also glad to see the queen is looking a lot plumper now as after raising her first workers without food she looked famished but now she is beginning to look ready to lay more eggs !;D

The worker count is at 11 and the larvae are getting bigger everyday. I also saw some fresh eggs today:)! I really need to buy some finch/grass seeds for this colony as they will not tackle any larger seeds and do not seem interested in Niger seeds. They have had a mostly protien diet recentley feeding on egg, flys and mealworm.

A lot of larvae have pupated and the 12th worker eclosed yesterday. There should be 20 workers within 2-3 weeks.

There is roughly 20 workers in this colony as well as larvae and pupae. I found an interesting food for these ants the other night - the filling for peshwari nhan bread. Its like a sweet almond paste and these ants loved it. I thought it looked a lot like ant bread and of course its sweet so I thought I should try the Messors out with it.
