A couple of photos of my Camponotus sp. (I asked a couple of myrmecologist for ID but no luck so far). I collected the queen the first week of June in north-eastern Thailand, a night after a big rain, under a street lamp. 27 June05 July16 July, first workers 22 July (today) some more workes have eclosed. I love the color patterns of these workers, with black head, yellow body and two light spots on the gaster. I tryied to put them in a small arena but it seems they don't want to exit for now, so I keep them in their test tube for some more. They accept and eat mealworms and sugar water put on the entrance of the test tube.

Nice pictures asiletto The colour of the workers is very interesting with the different colour head. Good luck with them, seems like they are doing good so far.

Very nice Asilleto, I am pretty sure they are Camponotus pseudoirritans which is a species found in Thailand.

Great video of a really nice looking ant species, they remind me of ghost ants being so pale in colour.

Camponotus paria.
Camponotus sp., with naked pupae.

What I do is to keep the camera on a small tripod, very near to the test tube, with the smaller ants in contact with the glass, with bigger ants at 1-2 cm, trying to use only the optical zoom. I clean the outside of the test tube before shooting . I put a neon light on the top or on the side of the camera, so as to have a lot of light without reflection on the glass. The camera I use (Sony Handycam DCR-HC19E) is old and without sd card, so I capture the video with a firewire cable in raw format and convert them to divx with virtualdub before uploading to youtube. The most difficult thing has been to find a laptop with a firewire connector. The videos are a bit boring because the camera don't move, I am making them mainly for myself, to document the story of the colonies .
