Another tramp ant from Thailand.
The founding stage is not so easy, I caught 3 queens and one is not developing the brood, another have died after first worker eclosed without any apparent reason. July 06 July 20 First workers eclosed. 29 July Note the gastric movement of the queen, which reminds me of the termite queens. I have never observed this gastric movements in ant queens.

Nice looking species, as the only Monomorium I have ever seen up close was The Pharaoh Ant (Monomorium pharaonis), when I was doing nurse training back in the early 70's.

Very nice. Little colony founding there I see. Could we get a picture of the dead queen?

Very nice. Little colony founding there I see. Could we get a picture of the dead queen? The queen have already been surrounded by mold and is not visible, I will try to take a photo tonight. Maybe I will try to put the orphaned workers and brood with the third queen which is not rearing the larvae.

First workers can often be adopted out to founding queens.

I Moved the test tube in a small arena. There is lot of new brood, you can clearly see the polymorphism of the workers. video

An update of the small colony, I keep them at 23-25°C but they probably prefer an hotter climate, they move part of the brood near the heating cable.
