My daughter is "looking After" a caterpillar, big fat green thing, and it occurs to me it's a bit to late to be turning into a butterfly or moth, does anyone know if they overwinter and if so does it need to be kept warm etc, at the moment it is in a plastic tub with leaves and kept outside, but its turned cold here in Scotland today.

Plenty of caterpillars overwinter, but I think it really depends on what species it is.

Thats brill wood, it looks like a small white, "common old garden cabbage white butterfly" so it hibernates as a cryaslist (sorry spelt wrong) over winter, will tuck it up somewhere a bit more sheltered once it turns.
