I am starting out with a simple farm (no queen). Have had them before and the starting holes where typically right the edge of the farm. I would like to have them start right in the middle and then fan out from there.
I have read that spicy things like cinnamon and pepper will overpower there sense of smell so they can’t locate trials of others. Tried that and it didn’t seem to help. Kind of think that would work better for larger areas when trying to disrupt a long line of ants.
Could anyone give me some advice on any tricks I could try? Thanks

Have you tried plain old vinegar, as the smell of it does mask the scent trails. Lemon juice also works pretty well.

I will give that a try and see what happens. Any idea how far away it would affect the ant? Like if I put a drop at a spot will it disrupt their smell 2 inches away or just at the points of direct application?
Also I am kind of wondering if it will stop a lone ant from digging in the wrong spot or just all their buddies? Thanks

Thanks I'm not sure if it will spread over a specific size area, but it should mask the ants pheromones at the point of origin and perhaps even a bit farther than the application point. You will have to renew the application when the smell fades, which would probably be once a week or even sooner if the ants place soil over the area.
