I was watching winterwatch last night, and they said that tomorrow (thats' tonight now - the 21st of January), there is going to be a feature on wood ants. Might be worth a look

As usual, not long enough! About 2 mins of the presenter standing in a wood at night, trying to put a micro camera into the nest. The lighted camera kept going out, so they resorted to some day shots, they might as well not have bothered. I have taken better on ytube

does anybody keep that type of ant? You can only keep wood ant species for a very short time in captivity, and I do not recommend doing so as they are highly prone to mite infestation. These ants are best observed in the wild as their nests are huge as are their population numbers, as big nest mounds can contain around 250,000 or more workers and dozens or even hundreds of queens. My advice is leave wood ants in the woods where they belong.
