also I may be in the process of buying Messor barbarus do many of you find these a hard species of ant to keep or are they quite straight forward? I have found that the species is fairly easy to keep given a warm place to live, which why my 2 colonies are both kept in medium sized plastic tanks in our kitchen/dining room. Once the colony is about a year old with 30+ workers and is eating well, it grows very quickly. Nice to see you here on the Ant Hill again popitgoes. Welcome back.

Don't know offhand of anyone in Staffordshire, but we do have members all over the UK so there should be a few near you. You can keep Messor barbs in Ytong as you can read members journals who have done this. Acrylic or glass type formicariums are also fine.

I am starting off small with my enclosure then eventually go up to the 4/3/3 sized enclosure I originally wanted, but that will possibly be over a year away lol
