We are going Victoria Plum picking tomorrow, just up the road from here. Greengages are ready too I'm sure they are a bit earlier this year... That will bring the wasps out, and the ants too! Anything juicy and sweet they like

You maybe lucky to see some roaming ants. By the way I found out by accident that wasps and bumble bees seem to like damp polo mints Something random I know but found out as I dropped some picking strawberries once and the picking just reminded me.

Perhaps again they are attracted to the sugar, I can't see it being the peppermint.

Yes will be sugar, But I was puzzled about when I went past a hour later and seen them swarm for mints on damp ground.

We went to our local pick your own farm this morning. The fruit trees were laden down heavy with fruit, so while Jen went to pick Greengages and Victoria plums, I headed off to pick Excalibur plums, Discovery apples and Katy apples. We returned with lots of fresh fruits all picked in the space of 45 minutes. It was a good excuse to get some fresh air and sunshine, plus a bit of exercise and taste some free fruit at the same time, as the farm owner puts out little baskets of each variety for customers to try before they buy. It is a good ploy, as it makes your mouth water and you know what the fruit tastes like and how ripe it is prior to picking. Summer fruit is short lived in the UK, so next time we will be out to pick the Cox's apples as they are ready next month.
