Pheidole pallidula journal.July 31st 2014.Today I received this queen though the post from Formica123. She looked fairly healthy if not a little thin and she has a small pile of eggs but she seems to have abandoned them. The queen was in a tiny test tube so I decided to move her into a standard size one as hopefully the water won't dry up as quickly. I easily moved her by placing the test tube she arrived in next to the new test tube and she walked straight in. Unfortunately she left her eggs so I later carefully placed them in the new test tube with her. I am going on holiday tomorrow for two weeks and will therefore not be able to check on this queen until I get home, fingers crossed she settled down. August 16th 2014.After returning from my holiday I am sad to see this queen seems to have eaten the few eggs she did have and seems very unsettled. She also seems to have a very clumsy way of walking which I did not notice when I originally got her. I just hope she is not injured and that she will lay some more eggs sooner rather than later... I am also debating if I should feed her a small drop of honey water as her abdomen still looks deflated. August 22nd 2014.Unfortunately, it's bad news. I checked on the queen today fearing the worst and she was indeed lay on her back with her legs curled up. This is a real shame as I would have loved a colony of this species as they are my favourite to observe in the wild. I guess she got too stressed during shipping, ate her eggs and then didn't have the energy to restart. Sadly this ends the journal. JOURNAL CLOSED.
