Its a shame it sounds like this colony is fading out, although they have lived a long time. Am I right in believing this species has been renamed Formica clara? This is the same species Gerhard has sent me believing them to be Formica rufibarbis though I am getting clara when I key them  |

To be honest I still prefer the original name and still refer to them as my "Lucy" colony and not Clara. |

How active are your lemani colony wood? Its pretty cold in the ant room 6/7c and the Fusca are foraging and nest building like its still summer. The only sign that they are about to hibernate is there is no brood. I'm starting to believe I will see them active all winter long. Do yours go fully dormant?

How active are your lemani colony wood? Its pretty cold in the ant room 6/7c and the Fusca are foraging and nest building like its still summer. The only sign that they are about to hibernate is there is no brood. I'm starting to believe I will see them active all winter long. Do yours go fully dormant? They never go into full hibernation mode, just semi-dormancy where they become very slow and stop foraging. This happens from the end of November until early March. This is when the workers begin active foraging again and the queens lay eggs. Hope this info helps? |

Any plans to hibernate them this year Wood? I will keep them cool, but not completely dormant, just semi dormant in an unheated room which only drops down to around 13 Celsius. I don't have the F. lemani any longer, but only the sanguinea colony. |
