My Camponotus cruentatus colony arrived from Anthouse on the 24/04/15. She arrived with 6 workers and 6 small Larvae. One of the worker has died but the colony now has 3 cocoons ready to hatch. I really love the Queens smokey brown colouration and hopefully her later majors will have the same colouration. The growth rate has been very slow but luckily I have allot of patience and can focus my attention on my more demanding colonies.

This is an attractive ant species as you can see from my videos, and keeping 2 colonies of them I too find the brood is slow to develop. Only now after months of growth has 1 cocoon turned dark indicating the ant inside is mature. Good luck with yours as I will follow this journal and we can compare notes on how fast or slow the colonies grow.

The colony hasn't really grown and they show no interest in food. It could mean that they have already started their hibernation period. There's 7 workers and a small clutch of eggs. Upgraded their nest for easier maintenance. Colony update 07/10/15 by Colony update 07/10/15 by

My cruentatus colony hasn't been developing. They have only 4 workers and 1 larvae. I really like this species and I want them to succeed. Desperate times means desperate measures: The C.vagus kindly donated 10 cocoons to C.cruentatus. Its going to be interesting to see how this different species adapts to their new tribe.
