This is quite a common practice among ants, as workers will often carry each other around piggy back style; and even queens if they are not too big. It is often one worker that gets it into her head that she wants to move others to another place, though for what exact reason is unclear.

Ok.Do you think mine will move out of the pot of soil or might it take years before they move out.Just lately I've seen ants climbing all over the outworld but I have not seen one go up the pipe to the loam nest.

I saw one of the workers walking around today with only 4 legs instead of 6.

It might have a defect or 2 of its legs where tucked under it.

Must be a birth defect then. She should be able to carry out her tasks normally though.

Some times I see this in my colony too with legs missing and its with a careless worker carrying a pupae ant and the jaws can be a little tight some times, and can when moving accidentally snip off the legs when trying to move them or holding them wrong.

Lots of activitie within the nest tonight. Seed collecting and taking out small pieces of soil and some quite big stones. The new thing I've noticed they all seem to be walking around with the gaster tucked under the body. I take it this is a scent trail as they all come out of the small hole on the nest and seem to be doing this today.
