They are pretty decent pics compared to mine. That queen in the second photo has nice colour!

Oh dear well for whatever reason there is one less queen, I gave them a fresh test tube of water yesterday and between then and now the a dead queen has turned up inside on the cotton.

God damn it, just had a mass break out, the only problem with this ytong nest is the glass cover is just laying on top of it.. so the second someone lifts the glass the ants run into the space between, heart in my mouth when my friend accidentally lifted it, almost had it happen when my sister wanted to show her child the ants as well. Think this time there were no "casualties" other than one ant that I haven't found.

So I realised the reason my ants weren't interested in the mealworms much was the mealworms were starving, so after feeding the mealworms and they gorged themselves the ants were a lot more interested in the bits of mealworm

I'm really not convinced that these ants are myrmica rubra, would be cool to know what they actually are...

Well aside from getting them off ebay their general shape compared to pics I've seen, and looking at pics of other myrmica species make me question which ones they actually look like

Well we know that they are definately from the Myrmica genus but from the pictures you have posted, they do look very much like Myrmica rubra.

Yaaay I was getting worried that they weren't going to have any more brood before winter, other than what they came with, but I'm pretty sure I can make out eggs within the pupa / larva
