Ha! After reading your earlier posts I went and ordered some too. They had never really been on my radar before but I did a bit of research after they were suggested to you. Mine should be arriving some time this week too.

seems like the strange coloured ant is eating another one of the ants O.o or at least the only one moving a dead ant (first causality I've seen) / showing interest moving it away :/ . Its spent a lot of time with the dead ant.

Hi, The yellowy black ant should be the queen. Does the look like all the others except for the yellowy coloration and a larger thorax? If so that's a queen, although pictures would help

Probably a queen then, sometimes they can have the same thorax and size but yes those two bumps between is a pretty clear sign. I caught 23 queens from the flights, I mistook one for a worker but on closer examination it was the exact same as the others but a lot smaller

ok cool, I bought this lot off ebay so it just came as a mass of dirt did a tiny pot, after gently transferring to a large ant proofed bot I didn't think I'd seen any queens but seen larva being moved about by workers.

I bought my colony from eBay too and was really annoyed that it came in a mass of dirt in a pot. Not at all convenient for checking the colony out properly or transferring into a new home. I've had quite a few deaths overnight but have managed to get the remaining colony to move into a test tube. I'm just not sure if any queens have survived and there doesn't seem to be any brood left although there was some when I first got them yesterday. What size colony did you order and how many queens was it supposed to have?

I would never buy ants from ebay as I have heard so many horror stories about ant sellers there. This sounds to me like a wild colony has been dug up, soil and all, which means there may be worker ants and brood, but does not mean this person collected any queens. Buy ants from reputable dealers either who have been given good reviews, or from members on here who you feel you can trust to sell you healthy ants, as you don't know who you are getting them from elsewhere or what their reputation as a good dealer is like.

Which dealer/seller are you talking about, and what link is it at the top of the forum?

I believe that another member posted the link to the colony.
