Some of you may know I had a Lasius flavus colony, but you may not know it died under strange circumstances after my dad's dinner break . So he binned it when the post came today I got an unexpected suprise a new Lasius flavus colony with my dad's name on it interesting wonder if it had anything to do with the other one. Anyway they are amazing the (survived a trip from Germany with no water) only an hour after arriving they are already foraging and are currently eating the honey I gave to them maybe its to show me there not dead as I thought they were oh well will try to keep you updated. no brood that I can see but there is an empty cocoon case. must of hatched on the way. ;D

Please use capital letters for names of months and countries, as I have edited some posts for lack of appropriate capitals Please use the spell checker to assist you if necessary. Also use punctuation in your sentences, as they are too long with no breaks. You wouldn't speak without taking time to pause for a breath, so add a few commas please.

I may have been mistaken when I said there was no brood, as there was some tiny white bread crumb like things being moved around. I don't know if they are eggs or larvae. Not really much of an update but they have retired to the test tube for now maybe their not hungry any more. ;D

There are about 15 workers I cannot count them all because they're too small, good considering I only ordered 3-6 workers and a queen. The queen is doing well she is large and plump. I have put a green fly in to see what they do with it. I have identified the brood there are around 7 larvae and there may be some eggs in the cotton wool. the queen has not moved , with the exception of turning round a few times. I'll get some pictures later.

Lol I was wondering why they stopped eating I looked at the queen today and she is massive. The armor plates on her abdomen have large golden rims in between them no new eggs or larvae I can see but they may be in the cotton wool. ;D

DISASTER!!!!! Today I had a major disaster while looking at the ants I dropped the test tube. About a centimeter of glass was lost on the open end and the queen was flung under the freezer, which I nearly broke trying to get her out. only two brood suvived the fall which were luckly being held by the workers when I dropped them. Since I had no other test tubes I had to put them directly into the slimline ant farm, which meant picking up the workers and remaining brood with a bamboo skewer. No casulties yet.

They have been very busy since I last updated as there are now two nest entrances and three workers out carring sand, but they are staying away from the fly I gave them. Prefering to make sure somethings definitely dead before exploring it. ;D

Finally they have eaten the fly I'm so relieved it's the first bit of meat they've eaten. The two small larvae must be having a field day. ;D

Today there are around 5 nest entrances but one of them is just a large nest entrance which has been partly blocked up to create 2 smaller nest entrances. They have been very adventurous as I found one worker wandering back up the tube which connects the nest to the foraging box. No escapes yet. ;D They have become much bolder since they were in the test tube they must like it better. If I give them aphids they will die because there's no plants but when they die will the flavus eat them.

I'll give it a go but not untill tomorrow or maybe next week because there are no aphids in my garden but there are some on my dad's allotment, along with multiple Lasius niger nests (one of them is in a compost bin ) we go every week usually on Sundays so I will tell you how it works out. ;D
