new year, new thread.
first up is a 5 queen colony of Formica lemani. With around 25-30 workers (estimate) and some eggs and brood, this would be a perfect starter colony. Only £7.99

Are these queens of this species good layers? If I buy them they will be a host colony which I will use to harvest brood for my Formica sanguinea.

to be honest I have had mixed results with egg laying, some laying very very well, other not so. Funnily enough colonies with 1-2 queens seem to outlay multi queen colonies in my experience. Very odd! It makes me think they may be two subspecies as some seem to have smaller but tolerate multi queens and the other have larger better layers and can kill off rival queens as colony grows

I will let you know tomorrow if I can get the colony, if I do going by your advice I may just split the colony in half.
