Shane, what are you gonna do with the princess now that she's isolated in a test tube?

May put her in a small ferroche chocolate box and take some workers from my main colony that are in foraging tank, see if they adapted to her.
But I may just keep her alone and feed her chicken and mushed nut seed and see if she lays and see if she has drones or new queens as main colony could adopted in to nest when there in egg or larvae stage..

Well I'm assuming she'll be unmated so any offspring she might have would be drones. Have you seen any drones in your colony yet or is it just princesses?

Nice! I doubt those will be the only alates produced. You might have them flying around your room at this rate.

Also some of the queens seem missing or hiding in nest as I cannot find them
Nothing in there garbage so they not dead, they may show up I hope in time.

The old queen and workers may not see the new young queen as a threat, as she is not mated and not about to usurp her mother; but only time will tell as it will be the workers who decide her fate, as I think she will keep away from her mother to avoid conflict.

I hope so they keep apart. I know this colony can turn on there workers though out colony's years around summer months,
Also hope they never turn on there queen which they shouldn't I hope.

I couldn't see clearly, has the princess lost her wings? With been in nest to long over winter months, her worker sisters will have removed them or she could have taken them off her self.

Hmmm. That's interesting. And you definitely haven't seen any drones so there's no possibility she's mated?

No drones just princess. other first born princess have died for some reason , tried to save one and see if I could look after with taking some workers from mothers colony, but she won't settle and died even though the worker sisters did keep her feed when she was hungry and never turned on her, She just never settled or seeped.

Those close up shots of your super-major perched on your finger are brilliant Shane. She certainly is an impressive girl.

Hope she lives over a month or more as workers have a short life in this colony

That's really interesting how Queen Two is treated like a worker and does the same tasks they would. I often wondered what unmated queens do when they remain in the nest and aren't killed, I mostly assumed she would sit there and let the workers do everything for her.
It sounds like the Red Queen and workers accept the unmated queen because she pulls her weight around the nest and isn't a drain on their resources. Did the killed queens behave in this way?
