That's a good sign they should be alates, or big majors!

Wrong time of the year for alates to be born, but not for super-majors. I think you'll find that is what these big larvae become

I really like this colony too. It is a shame my Messor barbarus colony has died; I wanted to have a big colony like yours.

Also thanks In terms of population both Shane's colony and my Q2 are about equal in number, but I believe he will soon have more super-majors judging from the photos and video of the brood. Although my silver tank colony has been catching up lately. I do envy him having such a lovely red queen though, as both of mine are just red heads.

I don't know much about the colour of Messor barbarous queens till woody pointerd it out not long after I started my Messor journal as I thought they was all like her.
With looking around I do wonder if she maybe a new mix species of Messor as I cannot find any queens on net like her with same shell colour then the red head queen Messors.
I did get a weird message from facebook from some one in summer if she was a Messor cephalotes . She has the body for a cephalotes but not the head or the body size,

You are right, I can not seem to see any barbarous or cephalotes so maybe she is a cross if that is even possible in ants.

It's his photos which are really great, really make his colony look like an army? ??
