Quite sad, the queen was found dead this morning! No Nanitics, just a lot of brood . However I am hibernating most of my colonies now, which is good because I have my business and new-born to concentrate on! However Formica123, please can you let me know if you have any other Pheidoles in the future pal? Thanks

I like a good cup of coffee in the morning before work. and after 12 it is tea for me.
For some reason Costa Coffee and Starbucks coffee makes me ill everytime so I avoid these chains.
When I was in Chester (and Wrexham) weekend gone, I sat outside a café sipping red wine! While the kids had fruitshoots (no coffee for them) and the dear wife had a glass of water...

The bug gel must have sent this ant into a frenzy. She has laid more eggs. No nanitics yet but most are getting bigger (my bulbs are back on now until end of sept then all ants will go to room temp (then those that hibernate will be taken to the cold room)).

yay! Good news. I spotted some small eggs in the tube. I kept her in a room all of her own and away from other housemembers. I nipped in this morning to check her and she has a small pile. Now to wait!

OK, now that I am home I have spotted some small brood... Maybe the stress of the travel made her eat her more established brood that came with her! Its the waiting game again. However they should be about 2 or 3 weeks old... Can I ask is that normal for her to perhaps eat the brood (she did that about 2 or 3 days after I received them!!)?
I did leave a small cotton wool bud with a drop of honey BUT she has locked herself away (I have red cellophane (?) on the top so I can see down).
Also do you have any more colonies in case she keels over.

Your welcome,. I still consider myself new to the hobby. Only major advice I can give is, don't go berzerk and buy lots of colonies in the mindset of 'they are only ants'... I did and paid heavily on my pocket and mainly on the poor things that suffered in the early years! Oh and keep a record of what they eat!

My ants seem to love brown sugar and water, especially the Polyachris Divas! Can I ask a question here, I released a cricket or two intended as food for the PD's however now they are being ignored. So, am I right in thinking that after a while the crickets will adopt the scent of the ants and be avoided? Is there anyway I can tempt the ants into going for this fast food?
